SNF Open Thread: Where The Only Hole Mike Singletary Shows Us Is In The Win Column

Niners coach Mike Singletary hasn’t mooned anyone on NFL premises in almost two years. Maybe he’s due; his team hasn’t beaten anybody since finishing the season with Detroit and St. Louis last December. It has been said that great players don’t always make great coaches.

Another knock on Singletary: his presence in San Francisco has to be the ONLY reason that this team is on national television. Sure, the Niners have a couple stars in Vernon Davis and Patrick Willis, but they’re a boring team and a bad team. And yet BOTH of their first two home games have been on national TV. This team might finished third in the NFC West, and they probably couldn’t finish third in the UFL.

Anyway…Philly will match lame-for-lame as Kevin Kolb gets the start tonight. San Fran will forego playing a quarterback altogether for this game and use the triple-option wishbone offense. It might be the only time all season that Frank Gore lives up to his fantasy hype.

Finally, it’s time for some SUNDEE Night Footbaw, starring the Raljon Redskins and the Balmer Ravens. Ape has already detailed the Battle of the Beltways (two s’s not one because we don’t share a single beltway, otherwise we’d have to interact with one another on far too regular a basis) and I’ve provided my needlessly detailed analysis for the peacock (to think, the msm thinks the blogosphere is obscene!) so there really isn’t to much more to say. Except for “fuck Baltimore” of course. Because that’s always worth saying. Anyway, continue after the jump for some thoughts on what we’ve seen so far today, and follow along in the open thread.

Hey look, NBC gave another member of the KSK gay mafia a chance to ramble on about Sunday Night’s game! I had no idea following in the footsteps of Ape and Drew could be so glamorous. [NBC Sports]
