The NFL moved quickly today to resolve one last bit of nasty offseason business by suspending Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay for six games and fined $500,000 as punishment for pleading guilty to a misdemeanor count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated this morning in Hamilton County court. Blood taken at the time of the March 16 arrest showed that Irsay had oxycodone, hydrocodone alprazolam in his system when he was found stopped in the middle of the street unable to find his house.

The half-million dollar fine is the the maximum cash amount allowed under the NFL constitution, but the six game suspension reflects a far more broad punishment for Irsay as he cannot attend practices, games or even show his face at Colts facilities. Additionally, Irsay cannot represent the club at league or league committee meetings, Colts events or even do interviews, including using social media.

So consider these the last statements from a broken man, unless he manages to squeeze one last apology Tweet out before the suspension goes into effect at 5 PM ET tomorrow.

I mean, what’s the point of even owning an NFL team if you can’t brag about it?

Interestingly enough, no one really knows what this means for the team for trade approvals and such. Imagine the chaos that would ensue if Irsay came back to a team that had Tony Romo at quarterback for say, Jerry’s fine offer of three late-round 2015 picks for Andrew Luck? Not they we suggest Jerrah should take advantage of the situation, but if anyone is going to be the instrument for anarchy within the ownership ranks odds are it’s going to be the Cowboys owner/general manager.

One last fist bump before you go, Jim. Know we’re suffering too knowing you will unable to Tweet during this time.

Stay strong, enjoy the random drug testing and take the next couple of months to wistfully strum that Jerry Garcia guitar you own to contemplate what you have done to earn this suspension.
