Today the NFL announced it was denying Cleveland Brown Josh Gordon’s appeal and would uphold his one year suspension for violating the league’s banned substance policy, in this case having one pee sample fail for concentrations of marijuana while the other one passed. In a statement released by the NFLPA — the group that approved of this ridiculous drug testing system in the last collective bargaining agreement — Gordon apologized to his teammates and fans:
“I’d like to apologize to my teammates, coaches, the Cleveland Browns organization and our fans. I am very disappointed that the NFL and its hearing office didn’t exercise better discretion and judgment in my case. I would like to sincerely thank the people who have been incredibly supportive of me during this challenging time, including my family, my agent, my union, my legal team, and the Cleveland Browns staff.”
There isn’t much else anyone can say here that we haven’t gone over a thousand times already this year. The league’s disciplinary system is completely broken and embarrassing, and now a couple nanograms of a milliliter of weed means Cleveland is without one of their best players for the season, a grown man who may have smoked weed in a state where it is legal is going to have to grovel before Roger Goodell to get his job back in a year and he’s still being punished far worse than other terrible infractions this offseason.
This is some bullshit.
I want more like this!
