Albert Breer reports that the Patriots have targeted their Week 1 game in Miami as the likely return date for Rob Gronkowski following an ACL injury that ended his 2013 season prematurely. With that settled, the team is now also able to pencil in Gronk’s 2014 season-ending injury, which tentatively slated for the Thursday night Week 6 game against the Jets.

“We’ve still got time to move things around, but we’re confident Week 6 is the spot,” one highly placed source in the Patriots organization said. “It is helpful for us to know before the end of June when exactly Gronk’s season will be cruelly cut short.”

The team prefers to have the annual Gronk injury set in place so it doesn’t conflict with the annual Danny Amendola injury, which, the source set, could happen as early as Week 3. As for what will fell Gronk this year, that remains to be seen.

“Who knows? Probably another knee thing, though his shoulder is definitely due. Can never rule out crotch rot with that guy.”
