At his arraignment on Thursday in Atlantic, with his wife seated behind him, plead not guilty to a third-degree assault charge stemming from an incident at a casino in February when he allegedly knocked his then-fiancee unconscious.
Prosecutors, while confident they could win if the case goes to trial, are reportedly going to offer a plea deal that involves no jail time for Rice though would require probation and him to undergo anger management counseling.
Some may see that as lenient, but ultimately jail time wasn’t going to be significant for the Ravens running back. A plea deal, however, would an admission of guilt so far as the league office is concerned, meaning a suspension is all the more likely.
