The 49ers appear to be at the end of their rope with Aldon Smith, according to a report by CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson. After Smith’s recent arrest for saying he has a bomb in an airport, 49ers leadership seems to be considering letting Smith hit free agency on May 3rd instead of picking up the 9.75 million option for 2015. While this is sad for Smith, and will only inspire more hair-trigger reactions from the media about what a risk Smith could be on the 49ers, or indeed on any other team if he does hit free agency, some solace can be taken in imagining cartoon-style smoke pouring out of Harbaugh’s ears as he learns about his team’s run-ins with the law. It’s the little things, you know?
