The Panthers played strong in the first half, but a few bad penalties against them and impressive goal line stands by the 49ers kept Carolina from taking advantage early. By halftime, the 49ers captured the lead in somewhat controversial fashion.

In the second half, the Panthers were done in by mindless penalties and an inability to crack the San Francisco defense. Cam Newton was sacked five times. He also threw two interceptions, the latter of which ended any hopes of a Carolina comeback in the fourth quarter with four and a half minutes left. Albeit after a terrible roughing the passer penalty on the 49ers that extended the drive and got Harbaugh spinning. And so the Panthers were the first home team dispatched over the divisional weekend.
By the way, you’ll never guess who is already super smug about this development. MAYBE.
Just back from Seattle. What'd I miss?
