The Sean Taylor Memorial Meast of Week 16 is Cam Newton, who pulled out a magnificent game-winning touchdown drive in the 4th quarter of the Panthers victory over the Saints to propel Carolina most likely to a first-round bye in the playoffs. Cam didn’t have a great game throughout on Sunday but came through in the clutch when he absolutely had to. It’s probably unfair that we come to define players by such a small part of their overall performance. It’s why we usually dog the shit out of Tony Romo and Peyton Manning despite them being good quarterbacks. That’s just the culture of sports. It also makes us feel good because Peter King won’t be happy again until Cam has a four-interception outing.

BEARSHOLE

The Jeff George Memorial Least for Week 16 is the Chicago Bears defense, which was utterly decimated by the Eagles on Sunday night, giving up 54 points, allowing two 100-yard rushers and watching helplessly as Nick Foles completed 21 of 25 passes. It’s not as though the Bears offense was anywhere close to keeping up with the Eagles offensive onslaught, but the Bears couldn’t have looked any more feckless on defense, which was once a strength for them. Instead of seizing on a golden opportunity to clinch the division, the Bears must defeat the Packers on Sunday to qualify for the playoffs. And even if they do, safe to assume they’ll be a home underdog against whoever they’d draw in the first round.
