This week’s Dez Bryant thing that everyone is condemning is the Cowboys receiver’s decision to leave the field with a minute and a half to go in the fourth quarter while the Packers were taking knees to wrap up their comeback win in Dallas.
Though Jason Garrett told the media he respects the emotion Dez has for the game, he will insist Bryant stays on the field at the end of future Cowboys meltdowns. Or the few that can happen before Garrett is inevitably fired. For what it’s worth, Dez just didn’t want the world to see his tears.
“I was wrong,” Bryant told reporters during a Monday morning visit to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth. “It didn’t have anything to do with my teammates. I just … I couldn’t watch Green Bay kneel the ball down on the field after a tough loss like that. I was very emotional. I cried when I got into the locker room. I didn’t want to show that stuff on the sideline.”
I can understand where Dez is coming from. Once the world got to see the awesome power of Knowshon Moreno’s tear duct eruptions, it set a new standard that would be hard for anyone to match.
In the future, Dez Bryant has to trust his talents and know his tears will be good enough to get the job done, even if they’re not Knowshon caliber.
