Despite starting the game with a running back lacking an NFL carry, the Giants opened with a steady opening drive that took more than nine minutes off the clock and featured both a near interception and a near touchdown pass. It met somewhere in the middle and concluded with a field goal.
The teams traded possessions, only for the Giants to give a up a huge punt return for a touchdown to Marcus Sherels. Bonus points to Giants punter Steve Weatherford for drawing a horse collar penalty just as Sherels crossed the goal line.
Then a sudden and disturbing bout of competence overcame the Giants. Hakeem Nicks didn’t start catching passes, but he did draw a big pass interference penalty. Then Eli Manning made a throw that could have been intercepted if the Vikings had decent corners. Instead, it was a touchdown to Rueben Randle.
Josh Freeman has been pressured well by the Giants defense and only really has one halfway decent drive in the half and that ended with a long missed field goal. It doesn’t help that Adrian Peterson has nine yards on eight carries.
