Here we go again.
Just when you think the situation in Tampa bay can’t possibly become any more volatile, reports surfaced yesterday that noted asshole and Florida Man Greg Schiano was secretly keeping tabs on his team in the locker room.
Players have told their agents about coaches roaming through the locker room (typically the players’ sanctuary away from coaches) and staff videotaping players on the sidelines during losses to single out players laughing or horsing around.
This comes on the heels of Bucs brass fining QB Josh Freeman twice, while the organization continues to deny allegations that they leaked information regarding Freeman’s entry into phase one of the NFL’s drug program. So if you’re keeping score at home, Tampa Bay has just rounded third and is headed for fucked.
But why? What would possibly cause a team to alienate one of their best players, create an increasingly hostile workplace environment – even by Florida standards – and keep pouring lighter fluid on their tire fire of a season? Because that’s the Rutgers way.
The players also speak to the influx of multiple Rutgers players from Schiano’s past and the use of the phrase “Schiano Men,” a term that clearly does not apply to Freeman.
Schiano Men. If you’re not willing to do everything Captain Redass asks – extra time in the weight room, bum-rushing a victory formation, spitting on children – then he doesn’t have a place for you on his team.
How someone with an outdated totalitarian philosophy like that is still gainfully employed by an NFL franchise is beyond all logic. All we can do at this point is sit back, wait for Schiano to get caught with his pants down, and see how the rest of this saga plays out. SPOILER ALERT: It doesn’t end well.
