Bernie Kosar’s personal and financial troubles in recent years have been well documented, but it’s the suspicions of alcoholism that have been most keenly focused on since the former Browns quarterback spent the second half of a preseason game this summer engaging in a bizarrely intense rant against Kellen Clemens, an outburst some attributed to Kosar going hard on the sauce.
While that was merely speculation at the time, some concrete problems arose on Sunday when Kosar was arrested on suspicion of a DUI.
And while most of the details skew toward the tragic, Kosar was still in the mood for some dark humor:
When asked for identification, Kosar handed a police officer two credit cards, and when asked if he had a driver’s license, the former Browns quarterback pointed to one of the cards as if it was his license, the report said.
When asked if he had anything to drink, Kosar told an officer that he was helping a friend out that evening, the report said.
He was given several field sobriety tests, according to the report. He was asked to recite the alphabet, which he was unable to do, and was unable to smoothly pursue an object with his eyes, the report said.
The officer asked Kosar if he had any problems that would prevent him from standing on one leg or walking and turning, and Kosar said he’s had several surgeries on his knees and ankles because his line couldn’t block, the report said.
