Well-known purposely contrarian website Slate, which unlike The Washington Post itself remains the property of The Washington Post Co., today published a piece saying the site will no longer use the term “Redskins” when referring to Raljon, MD’s Washington’s NFL team.

What a daring decision. Way to strike a blow for justice and righteousness.

Only 20 years after The Oregonian!
Only more than a year after The Kansas City Star!
Only 150 years after haughty shithead Gregggggg Easterbrook!
Only nearly a full year after The Washington City Paper!
Only several months after sportswriters in Buffalo and Philadelphia vowed to stop using the term!

Gotta make sure the limb is well populated before you go out on it, I guess.

Oh, and if you wanna be one of those cynical people who looks at the business side of things, Slate waited to take this stance until after its parent company sold a publication that had to rely on access with the team. But who wants to be cynical when there’s overwhelming bravery by Slate staff to salute? Not me!

Well done, Slate. You’ll save the world one cowardly grandstand at a time.
