Hall of Fame defensive tackle Art Donovan died on Sunday at the age of 89. He was enshrined in Canton in 1968. For those of us under retirement age, we knew Donovan through accounts of “The Greatest Game Ever Played” and various off-color stories from his playing days that he shared on TV, most notably on “The Tonight Show”. Children of the ’90s may recall his guest appearance on “The Adventures of Pete & Pete”. Not to be forgotten, however, is the great low-budget ad he once did for a Baltimore-area pest control company, in which Art Donovan is the sworn enemy of the cock-uh-roaches.
