Oh hey, actual news afoot. The NFL has reached a settlement with the 4,500 litigants in the concussion lawsuit brought on by former players. The figure comes to $765 million, which is probably a bargain for the league compared to what many expected they would have to pay out through an eventual settlement or loss in court.

Even if the settlement price tag isn’t as high as expected (and probably not all that helpful to an individual player with hefty medical costs), the fact that a settlement is paid out is certainly costly from a PR standpoint, as the league is tacitly admitting (if not legally admitting) it didn’t do enough to prevent concussions and that, y’know, the sport is just inherently dangerous.
