One of the more entertaining storylines of the off-season is JaMarcus Russell’s attempt comeback from failure, purple drank abuse and obesity. So far at least the initial conditioning work is paying off, as he’s lost nearly 30 pounds since he began his workout program in February. That puts him at a still rotund 288, but at least he’s under three bills.

Anyway, it was already reported a while back that the Jets were entertaining the idea of adding JaMarcus to their staple of quarterback flotsam, but nothing seems to have come of that since late January. I wouldn’t count them out just yet. Signing JaMarcus would be a highly Jets move.

Still, the interest garnered by the former no. 1 pick doesn’t only come from teams bent on hilarious self-destruction. In fact, word has it that multiple teams are kind of paying attention to JaMarcus’ inspiring comeback effort.

“I’ve been following his comeback story pretty closely,” one NFC scout told CBSSports.com’s Mike Freeman. “I think a lot of teams are. Good chance he gets a second shot.”

Freeman reported Thursday that “more than a few teams” have been keeping an eye on Russell

I’m glad the competition is opening up for JaMarcus’ services. It’s no fun if only one fan base has to dread their team taking a flyer on him.
