Pro Football Weekly writer Nolan Nawrocki garnered a lot of attention two years ago with a scathing, oddly personal though not entirely inaccurate dismissal of Cam Newton before Ace Boogie was drafted first overall in the 2011 draft. Nawrocki is still around ranting about a highly touted black quarterback. This time, it’s Geno Smith.
Not a student of the game. Nonchalant field presence — does not command respect from teammates and cannot inspire. Mild practice demeanor — no urgency. Not committed or focused — marginal work ethic. Interviewed poorly at the Combine and did not show an understanding of concepts on the white board. Opted not to compete at the Senior Bowl and has approached offseason training as if he has already arrived and it shows in his body with minimal muscle definition or strength. Has small hands and glaring ball security issues (32 career fumbles). Really struggled handling the snow in Pinstripe Bowl (took two safeties) and will be troubled by the elements. Needed to be coddled in college — cannot handle hard coaching.
A cross between Akili Smith and Aaron Brooks, Smith is a gimmick, overhyped product of the system lacking the football savvy, work habits and focus to cement a starting job and could drain energy from a QB room. Will be overdrafted and struggle to produce against NFL defensive complexities.
That’s pretty harsh and, once again, seems a little bit more astringent than necessary. Of course, now that Nawrocki had issued not one, BUT TWO, nasty scouting reports about hyped black quarterbacks, people are suggesting that he might be RAYCESS.
But is he? Let’s compare his Geno Smith scouting report with that on a confirmed racist:
Positives: Better’n an Arab, I guess.
Negatives: Don’t respond to “boy”. Uppity. Not so much unfocused as savage. Almost animal-like. Don’t wake up ’til noon, gonna be tough if you got a 1 o’clock game. Probably ignores coaches’ calls looking for white women in the crowd. Gonna check with Obama to see who he wants to win each game, will take a dive if Obama says so. Wouldn’t know a route tree from a jungle tree. Won’t win nothing but if he does, will just melt down your trophy and turn it into rims. Runs first because that’s his primal instinct. Cross between Sambo and Kordell Stewart.
Summary: No, sir.
So, is Nawrocki racist? Yeah, he might still be racist. But he’s not that racist.
I want more like this!
