Elvis Dumervil has agreed to a five-year, $35 million contract with the Ravens nine days after the Broncos released the linebacker because a fax, agreeing to Denver’s proposed pay cut, sent by Dumervil’s now-former agent arrived at the league’s office minutes too late for the waiver wire deadline on March 15.
Dumervil will get $8.5 million in 2013, which is $500,000 more than he would have received after taking Denver’s pay cut. Baltimore gets a proven linebacker to replace Paul Kruger. Meanwhile, Denver not only loses one of its key defensive starters, but must still absorb a $4.89 million cap hit for releasing him.
Marty Magid’s screw-up with the fax machine cost him his job, yet still got his client slightly more money and a spot with the team that defeated the Broncos in the playoffs last year. I’m sure they totally makes him feel better about the whole ordeal.
