It’s been a banner year for Jay Cutler memes. Sure, people have been mocking his sulky disposition and apathetic mannerisms for years, but for whatever reason, 2012 became the year that making fun of Jay Cutler went mainstream. Somewhere out there, there’s Jay Cutler Hating Hipster who swears he’s been dumping on Cutty since his high school days.

We made our contribution with the “Jay Cutler is a cat” meme. Possibly because Jay Cutler is actually a cat and we feel the world should know. But that meme hasn’t gotten as much traction as the other Jay Cutler meme that recently surfaced: Smokin’ Jay Cutler. We’re fine with that. We’ll continue our crusade until Jay Cutler is unmasked as the secret feline he really is.

In the meantime, Catler appeared this week on “Inside the NFL”, where among other things, he was asked if he was aware of the various Internet-y things he has inspired. Relevant part of the clip begins at the 4:15 mark.

Phil Simms: Jay, you know, you said something, there’s just so much out there. The TV cameras are always on you. Are you aware of all the things, the blogs, and everything that’s said about you? I didn’t know about it, somebody showed me, there’s one out there [called] Smokin’ Jay Cutler. Have you seen these and had a laugh about them?

Jay Cutler: I’ve seen that. With some of them, it’s funny. It’s hard to keep up with everything during the week.

Simms: What’s your favorite one? C’mon, you like the Smokin’ Jay Cutler one the best?

Cutler: Yeah. I think that’s Barstool Sports. I know a few of those guys. I get a kick out of that.

Well, that was unexpected. Cutty is actually pretty cool about it. I’m not sure I was prepared for that.
