The Cowboys have experienced the largest dropoff in hometown viewership among all NFL teams. The ratings in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are down 18 percent from the same point a year ago. If that weren’t bad enough, after Dallas fans were drowned out by visiting Bears supporters during the loss on Monday night at home against Chicago, the team had to initiate a campaign to get the Cowboys fans who actually bother to come out engaged in the proceedings. It can’t be just the legions of bandwagon Cowboys fans throughout the country pulling their weight.

The campaign, with the handy explanatory name “Stand Up and Shout, was kicked off this an e-mail to fans:

Dear [Season Ticket Holder],

Sunday we need every Dallas Cowboys fan to get on their feet, get loud and help the defense get a stop! Starting this week against the New York Giants, we will have a new third down graphic on the video board and we want you to get involved in the game.

When you see the video graphic playing on the video board, get on your feet and get LOUD! Together, we can make opposing teams dread coming to Cowboys Stadium.

If we all play our part, we can help give our Dallas Cowboys a true home field advantage.

Sincerely,

Dallas Cowboys Football Club

In other Dallas defense news, Rob Ryan rebuffed the claim by Rex that he cried after Sean Lee was lost for the season, doing so in the most Ryan brother fashion possible. Wolfman also described the Giants’ reaction to the Week 1 meeting as “a bunch of bullsh-t” because New York players didn’t give his defense enough credit for shutting them down.
