The blending of volatile dickish personalities of Todd Haley and Ben Roethlisberger compels weekly updates on their working relationships from the media. Through six weeks of the regular season, it had been without major incident. So far, the most significant clash was the admission by THE BEN that he had been at times using plays from the Steelers old schemes under Bruce Arians. It probably helps that passing offense has been the only thing working on either side of the ball for the Steelers.
That was until Friday, when Roethlisberger told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that Boss Todd’s offense was a “dink and dunk” attack, even though the quarterback did connect on an 82-yard bomb for a touchdown in the Steelers’ Week 6 loss against the Titans. That THE BEN is also 10th in the league in yards per attempt might also detract from his theory. Not many would expect statistics to bear out the angry, confused rantings of Roethlisberger.
Though if you want to question decisions with the offense, Pittsburgh is dressing only seven linemen for this game after nearly running out of able bodies on the line when they dressed the same amount and several went out against the Titans. Perhaps we’ll get to see Shaun Suisham’s blocking skills this evening. I hear he’s good.
The 2012 season hasn’t quite worked out as well for Cincinnati as many had anticipated. That’s what we get for overlooking a cardinal rule of the Bengals: whenever they actually have expectations on their side is when they f*ck hardest. Still, this is very much a winnable game for them, especially if the Ginger-Green connection works as well as it has for the season up until this point. And just like Chris Johnson did two Thursdays back, Law Firm could get back on track after a few weeks of being generally useless.
Whoever wins, this is a game that would be better off being flexed. Just a few more weeks until flexing starts.
Barely related, but still somewhat amusing for athletes going through something shilly.
I want more like this!
