Well the Lions can’t play offense, suck at defending the pass, but they are doing a pretty good job of containing Matt Forte, so hooray for small triumphs. Even though Detroit is being thoroughly outplayed, they’re still very much in the game, thanks in part to Lawrence Jackson blocking a Robbie Gould field goal attempt.

There’s plenty of blame to share for Detroit’s poor showing when they have the ball. The line is letting tons of pressure through. Stafford is missing throws. And even when he connects, receivers can’t bring them in. The Lions have two inexcusable drops on third down passes, the worst of the two by Megatron. Brandon Pettigrew unlocked some sort of football achievement by fumbling the ball out of bounds on consecutive catches. Mikel Leshoure finished what he started by giving the ball away in the red zone inside of two minutes.

Ndamukong Suh appeared to have sent Cutler to Kitty Heaven on a sack late in the half. Cutler laid doubled over for a minute or so. He left the game for a play, then returned to conclude the three and out. With about a minute and a half left in the half, Cutler left for the locker room just as the Bears regained possession. Chicago said the veterinarian on hand is examining his ribs, for what it’s worth.
