Saints general manager Mickey Loomis was with the Saints for a few years before the coming of Breesus, so he knows a little something about the dark ages in New Orleans. If his negotiating tactics are any indication, he longs for a return to those benighted times, when Saints were Ain’ts and the laughingstocks flowed like wine.
While the Saints will retain Brees this year regardless, Loomis seems reluctant to give the new single-season passing yardage leader the kind of long-term deal he deserves, opting instead to use a franchise tag on him that might be better utilized on some of their other free agents. Oh, and there’s this, from Yahoo!’s Jason Cole:
That was the word coming out of the NFL scouting combine this past week, when Saints general manager Mickey Loomis tried to define Brees as “very good” when the quarterback was called “great,” according to three league sources. All three sources were asking Loomis why it was taking so long to sign Brees to a contract extension.
Long live Mickey Loomis, new king of the doofs.
“Blowjobs are alright, I guess.” – Mickey Loomis
“All-you-can-eat steak and lobster buffet?” [Makes so-so hand gesture] – Mickey Loomis
“Kate Upton? Kinda fat.” – Mickey Loomis
“Yeah, that’s an all right flight and all, but a truly great quarterback wouldn’t be wearing such a chintzy cape. Let’s see what we can get on the waiver wire.”
