Yep, this is the grossest injury ever

1r6snm

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

That would be a broken femur, which is the John F. Kennedy half-dollar of football injuries. EJ is listed as day-to-day.

Thanks to reader Andrew, I think.

I am revolted, yet cannot look away. It’s like the leg would just float away if not for the pants.

    Yeeeesh. Wow.

By the by, did anyone else notice that the headline for Don Banks’s column in SI this morning is “St. Louis Cardinals storm back into NFC picture”? It truly is a remarkable league where, on any given Sunday, the 10-1 Vikings can be beaten by a baseball team. Or a football team that last played during the Reagan Administration.

Well now you can just plug in Erin Henderson. The Terps didn’t develop the 18 Henderson brothers for nothing.

God, what a tough weekend for KSK. Stillers falling to Count Davis, Washington finding the most heartbreaking way to lose possible and Minnesota just getting beat on both sides of the ball. Makes me happy I’m a… Bills fan? Yeah, I still come out on the short end of the stick on this one, guys.

Ugh. It’s 7:00 AM PST, I have to work early and I was hoping all that shit about the Vikings last night was a just a bad dream. It was not. On a positive note, one of those goddamn pop-ups finally became useful and covered up the injury gif.

no slight intended, Mr. Flubby, sir.

  16. martinriggs says:
    December 7th, 2009 at 11:25 am

OMFG! Is there any further reports on his status? The way his leg whipped around, I’d be worried the broken bone could sever the arteries/nerves & he could possibly lose the leg. The physical price players pay is astounding.

    Are you not entertained?

  18. joe wade says:

this is nuthin compared to what happened to Willis McGahee when he was at Miami. During the national championship game against florida state he bent his entire leg in half kina like how a flamingo walks. It was bad but it was only made worse by the fact that ABC showed it close-up about 15 times.

easily coolest injury i’ve ever seen

  19. Aaron Schatz Got Me Fired says:
    December 7th, 2009 at 12:39 pm

    @joe wade

It was against Ohio State, but yes, that was the worst. Right after the Fiesta Bowl, I went to a bar with a bunch of other people who had been at the game (where they didn’t show the replay). When ESPN finally showed it on SportsCenter that night, it sounded like 1000 people were collectively not trying to throw up the beer they just drank.

freshman year of HS hockey i was about 8-12 feet from a guy who had his femur snapped in 2. the screaming was unforgettable. also i think mcgahee’s knee in college is at least equal in terms of gross.

    /too soon?

  29. Matt Casselhoff says:
    December 7th, 2009 at 1:42 pm

Did anyone notice they didnt stabilize the leg as they carted him off the field? They just drove REAL SLOW.

“Careful guys, this thing might fall off!”

  30. jl says:

Broke my femur snowboarding 3 years ago. Not only is the bone break incredibly serious, but a major artery (femoral) winds it’s way around the femur. If the break severs the artery, it could lead to pulmonary embolisms which can kill you very quickly.

That being said, they’ll probably put a titanium implant on the bone, and if his injury is like mine he’ll be walking within a few weeks. Modern medical science is fucking amazing.

Not sure if he’ll be able to play again, but I hope he recovers… I feel his pain.

Greg Oden had Mr. Garrison’s balls in his knees. For that matter, I’m pretty sure he’s actually a short white Jew.

  34. Ridiculous One Handed Tiptoe Catch says:
    December 7th, 2009 at 5:58 pm

@Potsie: Still, it was fuckin’ gross. Shame too, Oden’s finally starting to beast on people. Coulda sworn I saw Flozell Adams leaving the Portland game shortly after he went down, too…

The Vikings took a beating against the Cardinals. Not only did they lose by 13 (should have been 20, considering Favre’s garbage TD), but they had a shitload of injuries.

As a Packers fan, this gives me more hope when the Pack faces the Vikings in the playoffs.

    /hope this happens
//doesn’t care if the Packers win the Super Bowl, just beat Favre

    December 7th, 2009 at 8:38 pm

I am glad that Theisman was the first comment, because that will always be the worst injury. Blood was on the field people, he never played again. McGahee was bad, but at least he recovered and played again.

  41. ChargerFanMark says:
    December 8th, 2009 at 12:12 am

Theisman’s leg beats this. McGahee’s was bad. Napoleon McCallum much worse. But, don’t forget Tim Krumrie, during a Super Bowl (vs 49ers). Ed McCaffery (Denver) pretty gross, too.
