apeparrotAPE RETURNS TO DISCREDIT WAPO SOME MORE! Who says you can’t go home again? Answer: It was Tom Wolfe and he was right. But he never said you couldn’t briefly return to be the subject of a guest post in a home that you were unfairly ejected from! In advance of the Steelers-’Skins preseason game Saturday in Raljon, Dan Steinberg quizzes me on the differences between Redskins and Stillers fans. And, man, there are so many. ‘Cause Steelers fans chant like this [does obnoxious chant] but Redskins fans chant like this [does slightly different obnoxious chant]. Also, we don’t have to hate our owner. Advantage: Picksburgh!

Pittsburgh fans win because they’re attached to a less douchey city. Also, they don’t follow a team named after an outdated racial slur.

  2. jackin'4beats Says:

As much as I loathe Picksburgh, I hate the skins and their moron fans even more. So you may have won this time, but I’ll be back, OH YES…i…will…be…back.

  3. Peter King's Latte Says:

I lived in DC for years, and the worst thing about football season there was the fans. The Redskins fans are terrible. Of course the most obnoxious fan I know is a Steelers fan.

I think its pretty close probably, with Steelers fans being less wishy washy in their support of the team.

As far as FedEx field, FTP. I’ve gone a couple of times and it is a brutal waste of a day exercise. The logistics of the whole thing are completely FUBAR. I’ve never hated going to a game like I hate going to FedEx field.

  4. Deux-Deux-Deux Says:

For one, Redskins fans can hold a job at the Post.

  5. Bill Cowher's Chiclets Says:

    It’s PRE-season.

    Who gives a crap.

    @Deux-Deux-Deux: OH BURNNNN

  7. BabySexCannon Says:

btw, it was Thomas Wolfe, not Tom Wolfe

(and the award for Nitpicker of the Year goes to…)

My favorite part was the blog title: Famous Author Compares Steelers and Skins Fans – Congrats Ape even WAPO thinks you’re famous

  9. StuScottBooyahs Says:

I’m sure a lot of it had to do with the general wretchedness of FedEx Field and how many local fans have been turned off the place, probably forever.

    *raises hand*

If anyone does get me back in that shithole, it’ll be with free 50-yard-line tickets, a ride, a $50 gift card and my own personal Porta-John.

Do I have to buy another book today?

  11. claude balls Says:

Anyone else grimace when Steinberg asked Ape to name his preferred place to take an innocent child? Thank God, “back of my van” was not an option.

  12. FozzieBear Says:

Another difference: Redskins fans don’t leave their hometown and move en masse to Pittsburgh because their hometown is a rusted-out used-up jobless shithole of a town filled with fat chicks and racists.

  13. Tim Tebow's Girlfriend's Tits Says:

Redskins fans: It’s true! It’s true! We’re so lame!

    /Obvious Simpsons reference?

  14. Christmas Ape Says:

because their hometown is a rusted-out used-up jobless shithole

So long as you’re going on outdated stereotypes from the ’80s, is D.C. still the murder capital of the nation?

  15. Grimace Says:

    Pittsburghese > Worshington.

Also, Primanti Bros. sandwiches murder any other sandwich ever, so that pushes the Burgh over the top.

  16. Deux-Deux-Deux Says:

    5 Guys > Primanti’s

  17. The Pirate Sloth Says:

I think my hatred of everything Pittsburgh clouds my judgement here.

  18. Silverback Says:

My opinion is obviously biased and both teams have their share of obnoxious fans, but doesn’t every team? Pittsburgh wins because DC would not shut down and close schools for a victory parade(s).

  19. Tomlinson's Pain Tolerance Says:

Someone who’s been to Fedex Field please give a breakdown of what makes it such a shithole nightmare. I thought when it was built it was supposed to be the top of the line? Why does it suck so much ass?

Also, if we are talking obnoxious fans with no football knowledge then the debate starts and stops with Seahawk fans.

  20. Skins Says:

As a Skins fan I am continually embarassed whenever they show those crossdressing, pig -faced, fat, f-cks on TV. Why won’t they die already?
    Pittsburgh is OK ,I guess

  21. FozzieBear Says:

@Ape: Let me know when Washingtonians start moving in huge numbers to Pittsburgh for the exciting job opportunities and entertainment options.

Look man, it’s all in good fun, obviously. But we’ve been listening to crap about that Pittsburgh-Washington game at FedEx for a year now. It’s ridiculous. Great, your fans live here and support their team and wave their towels, which makes it look like there are more of them in the stands than there actually are. That’s cool- there are far, far, worse fans to have to share a stadium with, as I know all too well. But that game was also the night before the 2008 Presidential election. Last time I checked, a lot of Washington fans work in politics. Plus there were a whole bunch of other aggravating factors. You gotta understand, listening to that crap for a year can wear on a brother.

@Tomlinson’s Pain Tolerance: It’s in a suburb and isn’t easily accessible through mass transportation.- you have to take the Metro and then a bus. Dan Snyder has set it up so that you can’t park elsewhere and walk and then rapes the fans in the parking lot for $25 or something like that. The traffic flow into and out of Snyder’s mandatory lots is a nightmare. There’s no easy way to get to the upper deck, so you gotta walk the ramps for what seems like hours because it’s a huge stadum. The sound system sucks. There’s no history or nod to the Skins’ past anywhere. I could go on an on.

  22. Christmas Ape Says:

@Ape: Let me know when Washingtonians start moving in huge numbers to Pittsburgh for the exciting job opportunities and entertainment options.

Let me know when ANYONE moves to D.C. for entertainment options. D.C. has a large transient workforce that comes from all parts of the nation. Because, y’know, it’s the seat of the federal government. BUREAUCRATS! EXCITING! Yeah, some of them are from Pittsburgh. If that lets you trot out stereotypes that no longer hold true, so be it.

If you bothered to read the post in the Bog, I didn’t say the Steelers overwhelmed FedEx because the Redskins have shitty fans. Just that those fans are sick to death of that stadium, as they should be. It’s one of the worst in the league, if not the worst.

  23. Tim Tebow's Girlfriend's Tits Says:

Also, Primanti Bros. sandwiches murder any other sandwich ever, so that pushes the Burgh over the top.

Primanti Bros. is fine, but it is a chain. You could walk around blindfolded in NYC or Philly and crash thrhough the front window of a better sandwich shop in about 35 seconds.

  24. scottro Says:

Umm…primanti’s is a chain now because it was successful. Y’know…how most franchises start.

  25. Tomlinson's Pain Tolerance Says:

    @TTGT

Scottro is right. The place started as a mom and pop and was so good it blew up. Just like Quaker Steak and Lube which is also “a chain” now. Fix yo’ eating establishment knowledge!

  26. spilly Says:

It’s funny because 5 Guys has expanded to Pittsburgh and covers their walls with Northern VA newspaper clippings.

  27. Tim Tebow's Girlfriend's Tits Says:

    @Tomlinson’s

I have eaten there a few times. It is good. However, anyone that think it is the best sandwich anywhere needs to get out of Pittsburgh.

  28. inchesfromyourface Says:

“It’s one of the worst in the league, if not the worst.”
