Pro bowlers prance about empty stadium, praise virtues of low-calorie soda

Here we have a 1989 Diet Coke commercial featuring some notable NFL players of the day. I can make Ronnie Lott, Boomer Esiason, Warren Moon, Al Toon, Louis Lipps, Eric Dickerson. I’m not sure about the rest, one of the guys at the end looks like my mailman. This could be a case where anonymity has its advantages.

After the first 30 seconds, you’re on your own.

Our younger readers might not remember, but back in the 80s everyone drank straight out of 2-liter bottles. No big deal.

About three or four commercials in, there is the Bud commercial that was the inspiration for the Schmidt’s Gay Beer SNL ad. Brilliant!

What the hell is goin’ on out there?!?!?!?! Love the move because that means I can access the site from work. I guess that means I’ll have to keep the site refreshes low so as not to arouse suspicion from the IT nazis.

Nothing is as bad as the “Baseball Boogie” by the LA Dodgers. Look it up if you want to see Orel Herschiser rapping….

am i the only one who thought the Sports Illustrated (and yes, i cannot wait for the women of the 90s), BUD, Bold Hold and Buddy’s Carpet Bard were ALL better commecials?

Im guessing this was a Chicago area-NBC feed

  21. Web$tar Says:

    /sorry he came late

  22. Web$tar Says:

    /thats what she said

  23. Dustmck Says:

Buddy’s Carpet? Those motherfuckers pulled up a company van, picked up a big piece of carpet I had put out in the trash cause my dog gave birth to 8 puppies on it. I always wondered what there face looked like when they opened up that shit, after it had been in the sun all day.(I thought they were only here in Cinci.) Nice Boomer scene though.

  24. pollardito Says:

i’m guessing it was a southern Ohio newsfeed (Ch 22 or 12) since they came on specially at the end of the Coke commercial to say “for Bengals fans, it’s Boomer’s baby” and Buddy’s Carpet Barn was definitely a common commercial in that area

  25. seamus Says:

John Offerdahl, by the way, is now a bagel mogul in Miami. Which is like Randy Moss becoming the sushi king of Tokyo.
